Human rights group Haki Africa has asked the government to investigate and take action against officers involved in the killing of a 16-year-old boy.
Haki Africa executive director Hussein Khalid who condemned the killing of Tony Katana Kenga, said those responsible should face the law.
Mr Khalid who was speaking at Haki Africa offices said according to reports of the postmortem conducted, Katana died of gunshot wounds.
The 16-year-old student was shot dead by the police as he left a wedding party on the night of August 12, 2016.
The executive director of the Mombasa-based civil society group said that they will institute public interest litigation in a bid to get justice for victims of alleged extra judicial killings which he said have been on the rise in the region.
“Reports of the postmortem conducted on August 24, 2016 and witnessed by family, Haki Africa and police, confirmed that Katana died as a result of injury to the spinal cord which was caused by the bullet to the head,” said Khalid.
“We are seeing a trend on such killings allegedly committed by officers vested with the sole responsibility of ensuring our safety. We call upon all relatives of victims of extra-judicial killings and enforced disappearances to come forward and share their cases so that they can be litigated,” added Khalid.
