The outcome of the fresh presidential results did not reflect the will of the people, human rights organization Haki Africa has said.

According to Baraka FM, the group said that the low voter turnout witnessed during the rerun clearly shows that the exercise was not free and credible.

Speaking to the press on Monday in Mombasa, the Haki Africa executive director, Hussein Khalid, said that the exercise was peaceful but it lacked credibility.

The argument of the lobby group comes after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) declared President Uhuru Kenyatta the winner of the fresh election.

The lobby group pointed out that Jubilee Party used state resources to mount campaigns across the nation, giving Uhuru an upper hand over other candidates.

“This gave them undue advantage over others in the race. Our assessment, therefore, is that the elections were not fair,” Hussein said, as quoted by a local daily.

Hussein also said that the lack of agents from different political outfits whose candidates participated in the exercise also compromised with the entire process.

The organization also called on the opposition and Jubilee to engage in dialogue for the sake of peace in the country.
