The Director of Alcoholic Control and Licensing Board Uasin Gishu County Armstrong Rono has cried foul over traders involved in the sale of alcohol not applying for permits thus putting lives of their customers in danger.
Speaking in his office on Monday, Rono said only half of the businesses involved in the sale of alcohol last year applied to be given permits, which shows that most of them are operating illegally.
"We have started the process of approving permits for businesses involved in the sale of alcohol. We will only give permits to those who have met the standards to sell quality alcohol," he said.
He said once the process of approving permits is over, they will conduct a crackdown of all business that are involved in the sale of alcohol and those who will not have permits will be arrested and prosecuted.
"We will only allow those who we have approved their business to sell alcohol and those who have not, their business will be closed," he said.
He also warned children under the age of eighteen who are involved in taking alcohol that they risk being arrested.
