Residents of Mavoko Division have been cautioned against taking the law in their hands.
Addressing a public baraza at Kasuitu slum at the outskirts of Athi River town on Saturday, area Assistant County Commissioner David Tegutwa said incidents where residents take the law into their own hands were on the rise.
Mr Tegutwa condemned individuals from the region who group themselves in gangs to attack or terrorise innocent residents.
He cited an incident where a woman was harassed by a mob after her car developed mechanical problem and lost control on the road thereby causing minor injuries and damages to property in Makadara shoping centre recently.
The officer said the woman escaped leaving behind her damaged car after the mob blocked her way and surrounded her car demanding they be paid for the damages.
Tegutwa said though the unidentified woman escaped from wrath of the mob, her car was left at the mercy of the culprits who could have vandalised it.
He urged the residents to be careful with people, especially idle youth who are fond of mobilising themselves in groups and cause mayhem.
Tegutwa said locals should learn to work closely with the police and report all criminal activities or suspects in the region so as to help curb insecurity.
