Residents of Githunguri area in Kiambu County yesterday witnessed a rare spectacle when a handcart pusher was forced to shower in public.
The operator commonly known as Mbugua, arrived at his work station to find his colleagues waiting for him. They told him to jump into the handcart, commonly known as mkokoteni, and he obliged oblivious of their intentions. They then proceeded to get new clothes and headed to River Kirushe where the cleansing was to take place.
The handcart pushers became innovating in the moment, cutting a piece of rag from old sack that would be use to scrub their colleague. Mbugua was later shaved and dressed in the new clothes as the old ones were burned.
Peterson Mbugua, one of the operators said that they decided to take action after realising that Mbugua was stinking because he does not shower and also wears dirty clothes.
The victim of the day was however not disturbed by his dirty state saying he saw the process of going to the bathroom and taking a shower as time wasting since the bathroom is far from his house and also because he is a busy man. He however vowed to stay clean to avoid further public humiliation. The handcart operators promised to track down other operators who do not shower as they seek to "clean" the industry.
