The governor was speaking during an interview in Kakamega where governors are currently having a conference on devolution.

Asked whether he would shake hands with President Uhuru Kenyatta, the governor agreed he would although that will not change his stand on various issues affecting Mombasa.

According to the governor, there are various issues he considers pertinent and given chance to meet the president he would still engage him on such issues.

Besides supporting a handshake with President Uhuru Kenyatta, Joho said that he would still like to engage him on matters of port operations and how it affects Mombasa and other Kenyans.

"I have not been able to have an opportunity to meet the president after the handshake but one thing that I want to make clear, I have some issues that are pertinent that I believe in strongly.

"Yes I support but if I have an opportunity to engage president Uhuru am going to tell him he needs to rethink on port operations within the county of Mombasa and largely the coastal region and how it affects the whole corridor," said Joho.

He as well made it clear that the issues he has been engaging the government should not be taken personally as he was only fighting for issues affecting the people of Mombasa and Kenyan at large.

He, therefore, promised to use the conversation on national unity to address issues he considers pertinent and those that affect people.

"The issues that seem to be between me and probably Jubilee government are not personal and therefore given this conversation on national unity will not stop me from having pertinent conversations," he added.
