Harambee Stars finished runners-up at this year's Hero Intercontinental Cup tournament and as a result have walked away with a USD 25, 000 (Kshs 2.52 million) cash prize.

Stars lost 2-0 in the final to hosts India on Sunday 10 June. India receive USD 50, 000 (Kshs 5.05 million).

India talisman Sunil Chhetri who scored both goals in the final and finished as the tournament's top scorer and the best player received a cheque of USD 2,500 (Approx Sh250, 000).

The tournament begun on June 1 with three nations namely; Chinese Taipei, New Zealand and Kenya invited by hosts India to take part.

Initially, South Africa had been chosen to represent the continent but pulled out at the 11th hour with Kenya taking up their slot.

Superb Stars began the tournament in superb fashion, defeating the All Whites of New Zealand 2-1 thanks to goals from Cliff Miheso and Ovella Ochieng.

The second game was not as straightforward though for Sebastien Migne's charges, who found the going tough in front of a packed Mumbai Football Arena. 

The boys would ship in three goals without reply against India with Chettri doing the damage with a brace adding on to Jeje Lalpekhlua solo strike.

The team would redeem itself with the final group game, thumping lowly ranked Chinese Taipei 4-0 thanks to a brace from Joackins Atudo and a goal each from Dennis Odhiambo and Timothy Otieno.

The tournament was part of the team's preparations for their upcoming 2019 AFCON qualifier against Ghana later on in the year.
