The National Authority for the Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (Nacada) has raised a red flag over the increased penetration of hard drugs in Kisumu County. Western regional coordinator Selim Okenye said they are worried about the source of such drugs in the Lakeside City. Okenye said that after some intensive research, heroin and cocaine were found to be now available in Kisumu. “We are very worried about the circulation of these drugs as our youths will get involved if no action is taken,” she said. She called for concerted efforts to stamp down such drugs from the region, seal out the inlets and arrest the perpetrators behind their circulation. Speaking during the flagging off of a caravan to preach about the dangers of drugs in the county, Okenye said the youth are vulnerable to be introduced to hard drugs. Kisumu County Governor Jack Ranguma who presided over the flagging off announced that there are funds for women, youth and the disabled persons aimed at addressing drug abuse in the society. “Let our people access these funds to be able to change lives of drug addicts who are amidst us,” he said.
