Health Committee Chair in the county Assembly of Nakuru Mr. Joseph Langat says the doctors and nurses in various counties still experience challenges on matters of salary, a matter he said should be addressed to avert the stalemate facing counties.

Addressing media in Nakuru on Thursday, Langat said he intends to come up with a motion at the county assembly of Nakuru that will see the matter addressed.

“I am intending to come up with a motion to address this issue of salary. There is need to harmonize the salaries of all the medical practitioners since they take over seven years in training only to be paid 50,000 shillings basic salary and that could be the reason we are experiencing strikes,” he said.

On the issue of Doctors’ go slow at the Nakuru Level 5 Hospital, Langat said it was unfortunate that doctors decided to go on strike and leave the patients suffer.

“It is so unfortunate that the doctors decided to go on strike without even giving dialogue a chance. As Nakuru County Assembly Health Committee we are ready to listen to them and put their grievances into order when budgeting,” said Langat.

Langat who is also the MCA for Kapkures Ward admitted there are challenges in the Ministry of Health both at counties and national.

“I would like to call upon the County Government of Nakuru and other counties as well as national government to come up with policies to look into the welfare of the doctors and other paramedics” he said.
