Residents of Kisii County have been urged to take advantage of the rainy season in the area to harvest water.
This would curb perennial water shortages that hit most parts of the county during dry seasons which was experienced in January.
County Executive Member for energy, water, environment and natural resources, Ibrahim Moiro urged residents to make water pans that they will use to store harvested water.
“Almost every dry season, especially the months of January, rivers and streams dry and water dwindles from dams as pipes run dry. To avoid conflicts arising from these situations, residents should harvest more rainwater as this will save them when dry seasons start,” Moiro said
"Let us make use of these rains for the future benefit. The county government is determined to curb perennial water shortages," he added.
He also warned against vandalism of water pipes and other water catchment projects initiated by the county government in the region.
