This is after a memo that went viral on social media on Monday purported that the IEBC boss had resigned from his position.

The letter further claimed that Chebukati had resigned due to circumstances beyond his control that rendered his stay in the office untenable.

In a quick response, the electoral body noted that the memo was fake.

"We wish to state that the memo circulating on social media that @IEBCKenya Chairman Mr.@WChebukati has resigned is FAKE," IEBC tweeted, Monday.

Also commenting on the matter, lawyer Donald Kipkorir noted that the IEBC chairman had told him that the letter was fake.

"IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati has instructed me that the letter below is FAKE .. It’s why I full support Hon. Adan Duale in enacting Anti-Fake News Bill .... Kenyans who specialize in Fake News & Forgeries ought to be in Prison where they will provide free Labour to build Kenya," Kipkorir tweeted.

The fake news comes at a time when pressure has been mounted on Chebukati to quit after the resignation of his three commissioners due to standoff in the commission.
