The question on the lips of every inhabitant of Mombasa County is whether Senator Hassan Omar has shelved his interest for the top seat in the county.
Omar who had insisted that he was firmly in the race, has in the recent past maintained a loud silence on the matter, which begs the question of whether he is still eying the seat.
Mombasa ODM chair Mohammed Haitmy welcomed the move, saying that the senator had now woken up from slumber and faced the reality on the ground.
He further praised the senator’s advisers for opening up his eyes.
“Hassan is our good friend and we were all worried by the step he had taken to challenge Governor Hassan Joho. It is next to impossible to oust him as he has the interest of Mombasa people at heart,” said Hatmy.
When asked to comment on his recent silence regarding the county’s top job, Senator Hassan Omar said his silence should not be seen as backing off.
The senator said he was busy restructuring the Wiper Party, in a bid to ensure Kalonzo Musyoka clinches the presidential ticket.
“There is a lot of things going on in our coalition at the moment and as the Wiper secretary general, I must make sure everything is in place for Kalonzo Musyoka to win the presidency. As for Mombasa, I have already done a lot of ground work,” said Omar.
