With the general elections a few months away, politicians are looking for new avenues to ensure they reach their supporters easily.
Churches are fast becoming hunting grounds for elusive votes with politicians becoming regular church goers as the places of worship provide a ready audience politicians don’t need to sweat for.
They have turned the pulpit into a political platform, where they seek for divine intervention and even request for endorsements from the congregation.
The presence of politicians in churches is fast increasing, with most of them asking pastors and bishops to pray for their victory journey.
One particular church that has time and again attracted a good number of politicians is the Jesus Winner Church in Roysambu, which has become synonymous with politicians, especially those allied to the Jubilee Party.
Most of those who have attended the church agree that their visit to the church has been beneficial to their ascension to power.
On Sunday, it was not different as four governor aspirants calling themselves ‘Team Nairobi’ attended a service there.
Two weeks ago, another team led by gubernatorial aspirant Peter Kenneth worshipped in the same church.
It is estimated that the church has about 6,000 congregants any given Sunday, providing the perfect number for the politicians to ride on.
Other houses of the Lord are experiencing the same, receiving visitors who have noted that time is ticking towards the general elections.
On the same day, there was a case of unfamiliar foes attending the same service, when ACK Ruai hosted Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero and his challenger Peter Kenneth, with both eyeing the numbers in the church.
At the Power Vision ministry in Kaloleni in Makadara constituency, former MP Reuben Ndolo joined congregants in a church service dressed in an ODM t-shirt, perhaps a clear indication that it mattered a lot to show which party he was supporting.
But even as this trend takes shape in most churches across the country, some churches do not allow any form of politics during their service. Embu Catholic Church is one such case.
To the politicians, the church is good a hunting ground of votes like any other ground.
