The race for Nairobi gubernatorial seat is getting hotter by the day especially on the Jubilee Party side of life.
On Wednesday, 2013 presidential candidate Peter Kenneth submitted his nomination papers at the Pangani headquarters flanked by a majority of Jubilee Nairobi politician, a sight that proves the overwhelming backing he enjoys.
Initially, the race for the seat in Jubilee was between Kenneth, Senator Mike Mbuvi Sonko, Nominated Senator Johnson Sakaja, Dagoretti MP Dennis Waweru, and flamboyant Bishop Magret Wanjiru.
However, Sakaja made the unlikeliest move on Thursday when he submitted his papers at Jubilee headquarters, not vying in the capacity of a governor but a senator.
Reports from reliable sources have also indicated that Daogeretti South MP Dennis Waweru will seek to defend his parliamentary seat, hence leaving Sonko, Wanjiru, and Kenneth as the candidates who will square it out to find Jubilee's candidate who will face Governor Evans Kidero.
Curiously to note, the same group of leaders who accompanied Kenneth when submitting his paper were present when Sakaja dropped in his nomination papers on Thursday.
A few weeks ago, Sakaja, Waweru, Wanjiru, Rachel Shebesh were working hand in hand with Sonko to fight the candidature of Kenneth in the city gubernatorial race, however, the shift of goalposts by a majority of the Jubilee leaders who seem to be gravitating toward Kenneth leaves Sonko a political orphan.
Other reports also indicated that Sonko was really frustrated as he sought to hand in his nomination papers early on Wednesday.
What will be Sonko's next move?
