The two leaders caught their close lieutenants flat-footed with even the Deputy President William Ruto sidelined from the talks.

Conspicuously, in Raila Odinga's camp, top political advisers notably Siaya Senator James Orengo were absent raising eyebrows among NASA supporters.

"It is unbelievable that Raila can sign a deal without the presence of James Orengo," wrote Kevin Owiti on Facebook.

Another user Richard Omwenga said: "Seems close lieutenants have been thrown out. Raila may have as well shifted allegiance to other politicians."

For close to a decade, Raila has been depending on counsel from Orengo and Kisumu Governor Peter Nyong'o.

Incidentally, only Suna East MP Junet Mohammed along with Raila's daughter Winnie Odinga attended the surprise unity meeting between Raila and Uhuru.

Pundits say that Raila may have shifted his allegiance to Junet, a second term MP of Somali origin serving in the Luo Nyanza stronghold.
