ODM party leader Raila Odinga, on Monday dismissed claims that there is a crisis in his party, following a two-day retreat in Mombasa.
Members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) and Parliamentary Group of the Orange Democratic movement met at the Flamingo Beach Resort in Shanzu on Sunday, June 17-Monday, June 18, with reports saying the meeting was held following a crisis.
"This is not an emergency meeting called to respond to some imaginary issues. It is a normal meeting. There is no crisis in ODM. This party is not in panic mode. Ignore some media reports that say ODM is in a crisis. ODM is strong and growing stronger," Odinga told delegates who included deputy party leader, Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho.
The meeting came after a section of Coast ODM leaders declared their support for Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 presidential bid following Odinga's peace MoU with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
He asked members to support the party's agenda and focus on the Building Bridges Initiative which he initiated with Kenyatta.
Ruto lured Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi and several other coast ODM leaders to support him.
