Flamboyant Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko Mbuvi has rubbished reports on social media indicating that he has bowed out of the race for Nairobi's top seat.
In a post published on the Senator's social media accounts on Wednesday, Sonko called on his supporters to ignore the reports, blaming his opponents for what he termed as "a malicious propaganda."
"What is on social media is pure propaganda from a few individuals. I cannot and will not step down for anyone," the legislator said.
He was reportedly set to step down in favour of former presidential candidate Peter Kenneth who is gunning for the Jubilee Party ticket.
Sonko looks to unseat governor Evans Kidero, who is seeking re-election on an ODM Party ticket.
The legislator is facing stiff competition in the race for the Jubilee Party ticket, that has also attracted the interest of former Starehe MP Bishop Margaret Wanjiru.
Earlier reports had also suggested that State House operatives had prevailed upon Sonko to step down from the gubernatorial race, for a Cabinet position.
