Politics is game of numbers and cards. Sometimes cards can be in your favour while at times against. With the recent meeting between President Uhuru Kenyatta and The National Super Alliance Principal Raila Odinga which caught many by surprise, it has been an eye-opener to many politicians.
The reconciliation between Uhuru and Raila has made Deputy President William Ruto to take drastic measures to cushion his 2022 presidential ambition lest he runs into other political shockers.
The manner and secrecy through which the meeting was organized and carried out has proved to many that political rivalry is so temporary and political loyalty can be shifted anytime.
Deputy President Ruto has began his lobbying by hosting Meru County Members of Parliament on Tuesday 13th March 2018 at his Karen Office in Nairobi County. After the meeting, the Deputy President posted the photographs of him and the Meru MPs with the statement, "With Meru County MPs at the Karen office, Nairobi County."
The details of the Uhuru - Raila meeting lies between them and their close allies and the public is left to feed on the document produced and circulated to the media.
Since it is not clear yet if Raila will vie in 2022 and whether it was discussed in the meeting or not, it is wise enough for the Deputy President to start forming strong friendship with other politicians and strengthen such alliances so that they can stick with him at the hour of need.
