Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Abdi Hassan has warned bars and restaurants still selling second generation liquor that their days are numbered.

Hassan said the owners will be arrested and business licences revoked.

Speaking in his office on Wednesday, Hassan said despite the government declaring war on second generation alcohol, there are some individuals, bars and restaurants still engaging in the business, thus risking people’s lives.

“Since the campaign against illicit brews started following the President’s directive, alcohol consumption in Uasin Gishu county has reduced by 90 percent and by the end of the year, we want to ensure the county is alcohol free,” he said.

He said over 80 bars in Eldoret town and its environs have been closed for selling second generation alcohol, operating at odd hours while others for selling alcohol to minors.

“The war against the illicit brews has just started, and we will not relent until Eldoret town and Uasin Gishu as becomes a working county and not a drnking county,” he said.

He said despite second generation alcohol being cheap, it can result in permanent damage to one’s body such as rendering one impotent, blind among others.

"I have credible reports of bars and restaurants that still sell illegal liquor and we are coming for you," he warned.
