Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar has unveiled Linda Shuma as his running mate as he seeks to unseat governor Ali Hassan Joho during the August polls.

Speaking on Monday, the lawmaker revealed that his government would comprise of about 50 per cent women, noting that women will play an integral part in his adminstration.

“My government will be made up of 50 per cent women leaders,” the Wiper Party Secretary General stated.

“Women’s rights are not tokenism. I’m confident that with women inclusion in my team we shall take over Mombasa on August 8,” he added.

Omar announced that he selected Shuma from a pool of 21 other female candidates who had expressed interest in deputising him.

On her part, Shuma pledged that their administration would restore Mombasa's "lost glory."

“We will be able to bring sanity, security and ensure we develop our county. I envision a Mombasa that is beautiful,” she said.

Shuma, a hotelier and entrepreneur hails from the Mijikenda community.
