The Government has issued a stern warning to social media users who have been spreading false information on the state of former President Mwai Kibaki.
Government Spokesman, Eric Kiraithe, warned that anyone arrested spreading the rumours will be prosecuted.
"It is very unfortunate there are people out there busy circulating false messages about the former president's health while Kenyans of goodwill are busy praying for his recovery. I want to inform them that some of this messages can be penalised in both civil and criminal proceedings," said Kiraithe.
He warned unsuspecting Kenyans not to share uncorroborated information when they receive them.
"I want to urge Kenyans when they receive this kind of messages not to disseminate them as it can lead to heavy penalties,"he warned.
He noted that in as much as Kenya was a democratic nation, every citizen ought to exercise their freedom responsibly.
