Nakuru County Women Representative Mary Mbugua has lauded the move by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) to take individuals responsible for hate speech mongering and said they deserve jail.
Amidst reports that eight leaders including Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri had been locked up, Ms Mbugua said such leaders had no place in the modern society.
Speaking in Nakuru town on Tuesday, Mbugua called on the National Integration and Cohesion Commission (NCIC) and the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) not to relent in their efforts of dealing with such leaders.
"The trend of leaders making irresponsible statements then go unpunished should be forgotten because Kenya is growing and the young generations must not inherit such irresponsibility from us. Time has come to wipe out hate mongers from leadership positions for a better and united country," she said.
She decried the fact that the country was being polarised by leaders barely a year towards the general elections and added that the healing and reconciliation efforts being put in place risked becoming irrelevant from hate sentiments.
