Even before the party begins, the proposed merger to form the new Jubilee Party has suffered a setback after two parties withdrew.
The parties cite the skewed allocation of delegate slots as one of the major issues that caused the pullout.
Party of National Unity (PNU) and Saba Saba Asili will not be folding to form the new party which President Uhuru Kenyatta is seeking re-election on.
On Wednesday, PNU Secretary General John Anunda and his Saba Saba Asili counterpart Joseph Kanguchu said their parties will not be joining folding at this point.
The two issued a notice on Wednesday calling off the party's National Delegates Conference (NDC) set for Friday and rescheduled it for October 28.
"We cannot go with their programme. We are not for the merger," Anunda was quoted by The Standard .
The two said their parties will not be in Jubilee Party on Saturday.
Anunda said they postponed the convention because some proceedings are still pending before the Political Parties Tribunal.
Kanguchu said they cancelled their National Executive Council because the merger's steering committee ignored their proposals, especially on sharing of slots in JP NEC.
In a letter dated September 6, 2016, the party indicated to the Registrar of Political Parties Lucy Ndung'u that it had withdrawn its merger decision.
The party’s delegates were told to keep off the Kasarani Stadium meeting.
