Operations at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Eldoret town are going on as usual despite the ongoing strike by the specialized doctors.
Hospital's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr Wilson Aruasa says they have been receiving patients as usual and assured locals that the second biggest health facility in the country is still offering services.
MTRH receives on average of 1,000 patients from the North Rift region, western Kenya, as well as neighbouring Uganda and South Sudan.
“I want to assure patients that our services are going on as scheduled and we have not been affected by the ongoing doctors strike,” said Dr Aruasa in Eldoret town, Wednesday.
Specialized doctors at the hospital have been on strike for the past three weeks demanding for the implementation of a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) that entails an increase in some of their allowances.
Dr Aruasa further revealed that the hospital will acquire 10 additional dialysis machines that will see more kidney patients attended to.
“Currently we only have 20 dialysis machines at our facility where we do dialysis to 20-30 patients per day. The machines are not enough that's why we have procured an additional 10 dialysis machines through placement policy where the hospital will only pay for the reagents,” he noted.
“We are expecting them in two to three weeks. NHIF will cater for kidney patients undergoing dialysis,” added Dr Aruasa.
