In a tweet, Havi noted that the Chairman should file a case at the court compelling Inspector General Joseph Boinnet and Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i to restore their security detail.

"IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati and his embattled Commissioners should go to court for their security to be restored by IG Boinnet and CS Matiang’i. Why are they crying kijinga kijinga as if they are abroad?" Havi posed.

IEBC Communications Manager Andrew Limo in a statement issued on Tuesday, noted that Chebukati's security and that of Commissioners Prof. Ayub Guliye and Boya Mulu had been withdrawn.

“The Commission has this morning learnt that the security (including armed drivers) of the Chairman and Commissioners Prof. Ayub Guliye and Boya Mulu have been withdrawn. Consequently, the commission has written to the Inspector General of police for an understanding of the circumstances leading to this action,” said Mr. limo.

Limo said the move leaves the chairman and his commissioners exposed to threats on their life.

“The withdrawal of security is likely to expose the chairman and the Commissioners to security risk. The action undermines their effectiveness in executing the work of the Commission,” he said.
