Chairman Trade, Tourism and Cooperatives committee in the Uasin Gishu County Assembly David Biwott has urged hawkers to join Saccos.

He said this will save them from the daily cat and mouse games between them and the county askaris.

“It sad that majority of hawkers in Eldoret town are not in Saccos making it hard for us to allocate them space and also give them funds since we only deal with those in Saccos,” he said in Eldoret town, Thursday.

“We have also identified well-lit streets in Eldoret town which will be used by hawkers during evenings and weekends and this will only be allocated to hawkers in Sacco’s,” he added.

He, however, refuted claims that some businessmen are being discriminated by county askaris saying that all businesses communities are the same regardless of their political or tribal affiliations.

"I want to assure the Kikuyu business community that will look into their claims and take action if confirmed that the allegations are true. Every businessman is allowed to work in the county as long  as you comply  with the county's regulations,” noted Biwott

“Hawkers should always engage in continuous dialogue to ensure a good relationship with County Government and stop engaging in demonstrations whenever issues arise. We are willing to support and work with the hawkers,” he added.
