Hawkers in Nakuru town have protested over what they have termed as frequent harassment by county government Askaris.
The hawkers have said that it was wrong for the county government to collect Sh 360 monthly revenue from hawkers and at the same time arrest them for trading within the town.
The sentiments come following the arrest of 30 hawkers within the CBD yesterday.
According to their chairman, Joseph Munene, the hawkers have said that the county government should make longterm plans to build a hawkers complex in order to accommodate them.
Munene said that it would also be paramount for the county government to set designated areas in which hawkers should operate from.
Nakuru Town East MP David Gikaria who secured the release of the hawkers on bond called on the county government to cease collecting revenue from the hawkers until they have been shown an alternative place to operate from .
