Speaking on Sunday, they said that the move was necessitated by financial difficulties they were undergoing due to their inability to make savings out of their businesses.

According to the hawkers Chairman Mwangi Gichuru, they have already marshalled more than 300 hawkers from the town and process was in the final stages to achieve their long term ambitions.

Gichuru urged the remaining group that has not complied with their initial agreement to join the group since the move was destined to succeed by helping them solve constant financial crisis.

“The idea of forming a Sacco is not new. We have held talks with the county government and Chambers of Commerce and they have confirmed their support for that noble idea,” said Mwangi.

He said that the only thing remaining is to convince those who are still reluctant to join the Hawkers Association of Kisii to join so that we begin enjoying the fruits of this move.

“We want to reach as many as 500 members because I understand the number is higher than that,” added Gichuru.

He said that the Sacco, which they intend to call Hawkers Financial Discount will be in place by mid-May this year since most preparations has been completed.

“Members have contributed a lot and I am sure with the expected support from the County, we are definitely going to achieve it and probably we will also create employment,” said Gichuru.
