Hawkers in Makueni County on Wednesday surprised Governor Prof Kivutha Kibwana when they bought him a shirt as a birthday present.
Prof Kibwana was elated to receive the gift from the traders as he celebrated his 64th birthday in Kibwezi town.
He expressed happiness for the present saying he would support the business initiatives of the small business operators by unveiling a support Fund for them to secure loans and enable them to expand their businesses.
The county chief also took time to take selfies with the hawkers after receiving the birthday present.
"I got a surprise of my life on my 64th Birthday! These Kibwezi hawkers sang me a Birthday melody and even bought me a shirt," Kibwana tweeted after receiving the white-red stripped shirt.
Kibwana is among county chiefs currently ranked high in service delivery in the country. Others in this category are Kisumu's Prof Anyang Nyong'o and Kirinyaga's Ann Waiguru.
He has established top notch industries in Makueni and is the first governor to turn floods water to bottle consumable product sold in shops and supermarkets.
He has also established a milk processing plant in the county that envisages at exporting the product out of the county as well as the country.
