Letting said despite the market being opened for hawkers to use, they have refused to occupy it.

"It's sad that despite us using millions of shillings to construct the modern Hawkers Market to be used by traders, they have refused to use it and are instead going back to the streets, we won't tolerate that, they either comply with the law or stop doing business in town," he said.

He said they have started the process of evacuating all hawkers in town to occupy the market and anyone who will be found operating in the CBD will be arrested and charged.

"Hawkers have been a nuisance in town causing insecurity, that's why we want them to be in one area. From Monday any hawker who will be found operating at the CBD will be arrested, prosecuted and their licences seized from them," he warned.

He has also put on notice businessmen who don't have permits that stern actions will be taken against them.
