Nakuru hawkers have began selling their wares in offices after they were thrown out of the CBD by the county government.
“We have been making huge profits since we started selling from office to office. We realized that some people did not even have time to come out for lunch and hence the fruits we take to them are always a welcomed break,” said Goerge Omondi, a fruit vendor.
Omondi said that they were now forced to pre-pack and send the fruits to various offices.
“It has helped us maintain cleanness and high standards of hygiene. On a daily basis I make at least Sh2000 selling fruit salad in different offices, an amount of money which was once a pipe dream,” Omondi said.
Angela Cherotich, who has now resorted to selling her shirts and skirts in offices, also says that business has improved since she started taking her wares to the offices.
“On average I make more than two thousand. Sitting and waiting for customers was a bad idea since I discovered most did not have the time to come and shop,” she added.
Rahma Mohammed who used to sell reading materials now sells packed lunch to office workers.
“It’s better than what I used to earn before and I am guaranteed I will always get cash as people have to eat,” Mohammed added.
The hawkers have been peddling fruits and clothing in the major offices in the town ever since their expulsion.
