A woman shocked a packed Kisumu court on Wednesday when she admitted to having defiled a minor, but argued that ‘the boy looked like an adult’.
Appearing before Kisumu Principal Magistrate Joan Wambilianga, 24-year-old Judith Wandera pleaded guilty to the charge, but defended herself claiming the boy in question looked like an adult when they first met and started dating.
“We met at a drinking joint in Kondele in April 2016. He even offered to buy me drinks, and settle the bill before we exchanged phone contacts and started dating,” the accused told the court.
Ms Wandera further told the court that the boy, who was a boda boda operator then, was fond of abusing drugs.
“The boy had dreadlocks when we met, but after being taken to juvenile prison, and he was shaven, I was surprised to see how young he looked when he came to testify,” she argued.
The boy’s parents told the court that their son was a class seven pupil at Manyatta Arabs Primary School, but stopped attending school after meeting his purported lover, in this case Ms Wandera.
Ms Wandera will know her fate when the court delivers its judgment on the 23rd of this month.
