Following the end of Commissioner General John Njiraini’s ternure, the KRA board is yet to decide on a possible replacement.
As a result Njiraini has been forced to put off his retirement plans as the board struggles to find an heir.
According to reports, the KRA board held several meetings regarding the issue but have failed to come to a consensus over the way forward as Njiraini has not extended his term in office.
Njiraini has served as the head of the tax authority since March of 2012 when he was appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta who was the Finance minister at the time.
On Tuesday, the board met and reportedly resolved the issue, however, a senior State House official is said to have intervened further leaving the issue pending.
“The board has decided to start the process of recruiting a new commissioner general and wants Njiraini to proceed on terminal leave but we are now in a dilemma after the call,” a senior member of the Revenue Authority said as quoted by The Standard.
The board is yet to release the name(s) of any possible replacements which are then to be forwarded to Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich to pick from.
