The ban followed an impromptu inspection tour by officials from Education Ministry led by the Principal Secretary for Basic Education Dr Belio Kipsang at the school on Wednesday afternoon after he received information that the school was conducting tuition.

The school's headteacher Mr Martin Wanjema denied allegations that the school was offering pupils holiday tuition even after more than 100 pupils were found confined in one of the school's dormitories.

He was arrested and taken to Buru Buru Police Station to record a statement on the matter.

Dr Kipsang noted that what the administration of Happyland School was doing was illegal and would attract appropriate consequences.

"The Basic Education Act outlaws holiday tuition. All Education officers across the country should ensure that there’s no holiday tuition in their jurisdictions, as defined in the Basic Education Act." Kipsang said.

The Nairobi regional education coordinator Kike Abdikadir, his County director counterpart Abdikadir H Ali and Makadara deputy sub-county commissioner Ngumo Karuku had accompanied the PS during the raid.
