The ICT Authority has urged primary school heads to embrace Information technology to enhance the quality of teaching.

Chief Executive Robert Mugo said there was the need to use Information technology in all early learning institutions to prepare learners for ICT field at an early stage in their schooling.

Mugo said once embraced fully in all basic learning institutions, the quality of teaching will be enhanced for the benefit of the learners.

He made the remarks on Wednesday in a speech read on his behalf by Thomas Odhiambo; the Authority’s Project Management Officer during the Kenya Primary Schools Head Teachers (KEPSHA) annual delegates’ conference in Mombasa.

He said once the quality of teaching and learning was up-scaled, Kenya will achieve inclusivity and equitable quality education. Besides, this will promote lifelong learning opportunities for all by 2030 in line with the Vision 2030 Economic blueprint.

Mugo told the delegates that ICT was an integral component in rolling out a technology savvy community.

“Through the government Digital Literacy Programme for schools, use of ICT to Enhance Learning in all primary schools in the country will be capacity build to give learners an edge in the field,” the CEO stressed.

“The government is rolling out the Programme in all primary schools. It entails infrastructure building, provision of devices, provision of content and building capacity for teachers,” he said.

He said so far, over 89 percent of all public primary schools in Kenya have been supplied with the DLP devices and over 91,000 teachers trained on device utilization.

The ICT boss added the remaining schools will be covered in January next year when schools re-open.
