According to area residents who usually seek treatment in the facility who spoke to us on Wednesday, electricity was disconnected by Kenya Power due to a power bill in the excess of Sh200,000.

“The hospital has no electricity; you cannot be treated at night. They have also suspended all services that require power,” said Jamlick Kiragu, a resident.

The residents said that they are now forced to seek treatment at alternative facilities far away.

“I had brought my kid here with diarrhea symptoms on the Christmas eve but since he required some laboratory tests, he could not be treated here,” revealed Lilian Nduta.

Kiambu County Health officials could however not be reached for comment as they were said to be held up in a meeting over the ongoing doctors' strike.

The health center’s situation doubles up problems affecting health sector as doctors' strike continues to paralyze provision of medical services in the county.
