The Nairobi County Health Committee has threatened to dismiss two finance officers for evidently 'robbing' the sector of monies and paralysing health services at various county hospitals.
Chairman Manoah Mboku stated that the Finance executive Gregory Mwakanongo and chief officer Luke Gatimu have since diverted Sh158 million set aside for free maternity services.
Mboku said various health facilities have run short of essential drugs, an issue that has been attributed to the finance chiefs for failing to clear a Sh108 million debt owed to medical suppliers.
“We cannot bear this anymore. We rather propose a censure motion against the responsible officers because everyone outside there thinks the Health department is not doing its job, yet it is the incompetence of a few people,” he said.
Health executive Bernard Muia and the chief finance officer Wilson Ochola had told the health committee last Thursday that only Sh32 million out of the allocated Sh190 million for free maternity had been released since 2013.
