Medical services at Kisii Referral Hospital are set to be crippled as over 25 clinical officers attached to the facility downed down their tools on Monday.
According to a Clinical Officer who works at the hospital, there is no service being offered at the facility.
He added that the worst affected include the operating theatres, emergency unit and the maternity wing that has been partially operating, thanks to the services of the clinical officers who have now heeded the call by their Union to join their colleagues’ strike.
“In case we have a serious emergency patient in the facility there is a likelihood that there will be no one to handle him,” he added.
The hospital has been receiving emergency cases, latest being victims of a road accident that claimed 6 lives.
A spot check at the facility on Tuesday morning showed that all patients were being turned away.
The Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mrs Sarah Angima Omache is expected to hold a meeting on Tuesday in efforts to try to find lasting solutions.
