The CS revealed that they will await the audit findings and recommendations although he failed to specify the time the report will be out.

“The auditor general responded to the ministry’s request and had from December 5, 2016, commenced a special audit on the subject matter,” Mailu said on Monday as reported by the Star.

The audit comes following delayed investigations by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).

According to EACC Deputy CEO Michael Mubea, the probe would be concluded within a month of his visit to the ministry but it is now more that a month and nothing has been done.

The probe was initiated after a leaked audit report by the ministry’s internal auditor Bernard Muchere who revealed that the ministry had lost billions of shillings through irregular payments.

The cash is said to have been paid to companies that are associated with influential politicians and businesspersons in the country.

In October 2016, Mubea led commission detectives into the Health ministry following media reports over the irregular payments and he immediately announced a special team from the EACC to investigate.

“We have commenced fresh investigations in response to the media reports that contained allegations of irregular payments,” Mubea had said, promising to concude the probe in a month, something that has not happened.

However, he has failed to speak on the issue and instead directed the media to his boss Halakhe Waqo who could not be reached for comment.

“I am on leave until the 9th of this month. Can you get the CEO, who has the latest position?” said Mubea.
