Addressing the press on Wednesday morning during a morning breakfast show, the acting director of medical services in the country, Jackson Kioko acknowledged the outbreak of four diseases across the nation. The diseases include Hepatitis A, Measles, Influenza, and Cholera.

Kioko, however, noted that yellow fever no longer exists in the country and so the citizens should not worry. He was quick to note that the Health ministry is still working round the clock to look out for possible cases following confirmed reports that the disease is in existence in the neighbouring country of Uganda.

The director of medical services attributed the outbreaks to the lately witnessed climatic changes, poor hygiene, and water contamination in the areas that have so far suffered the ailments. He dismissed fears and a concern from the public that the diseases might spread across the country saying the ministry has a budget for such health emergencies every year.

The ministry has disbursed sh100 million towards fighting the so-far recorded disease outbreaks. Concerning cases of influenza outbreaks in Nakuru town, Kioko expressed his satisfaction that the government is almost winning the battle as fewer cases are being reported. He attributed the victory to strong health surveillance mechanisms that ministry has devised.

Influenza has been in Kenya since 2011 but its prevalence rate escalated this year due to ignorance by citizens.

In Mombasa County, Hepatises A remains a big challenge in the health sector.
