The Ministry of Health is set to carry out a mass measles vaccination campaign countrywide.
Head of vaccine and immunization services Dr Ephantus Maree, said the ministry seeks to vaccinate about 19 million kids across the country.
Maree said the exercise will be carried out between 16th and 24th May, 2016, adding that the campaign is scheduled to run concurrently in all counties across the country.
“During the campaign, government doctors and health officials will administer the MR vaccine to the children, a move that is expected to also protect them against rubella, that has been identified as being mild but dangerous,” said Maree.
Maree said that the MR vaccine is very safe and therefore encouraged all parents to take their children for immunization at nearby health centers.
Children who had been immunized against the disease in the past are also expected to get a similar vaccination.
Measles is an infectious viral illness that may cause premature death among kids.
