Area community health worker Japhet Nyareru has underscored the importance of local residents vaccinating their dogs against the dreaded rabies disease as it was expensive to treat the rabies patients.

Speaking at Boigesa village in the area on Wednesday evening during a public baraza, Nyareru reminded owners of the domesticated animals to take all precautionary measures to assure local residents of their safety by ensuring the animals are vaccinated against rabies disease and confine them to avoid roaming in the villages.

Nyareru regretted that some residents hardly vaccinated their dogs and other domesticated animals, hence posing danger to local residents' lives and safety.

"It is illegal for anybody with dogs and other domesticated animals to snub routine vaccinations for the animals as part of the safety measures to protect members of the public against contracting diseases from the animals which interact with human beings on a daily basis," stated Nyareru.
