Kisii Public Health officer Mellitus Kabar has banned hawking of fast foods in the county, and closed down unhygienic food premises following cholera outbreaks in the neighboring Migori and Homabay counties.

According to Kabar, the county has sent a team on the ground to inspect all food establishments, to ensure they comply with the required health standards in order to avoid the break of Cholera in the county also.

“We do not want to see the outbreak spread to the whole region, and our aim for now is control the spread of the disease by providing safe water, proper sanitation and health education to the community,” said Kabar.

“All premises that don’t practice proper hygiene have to be closed we will work with our health officers in the ground to make sure that the whole county is safe,” added Kabar.

He also urged residents to avoid using water from rivers in the area that have their tributaries from the Rongo area, since it may have been contaminated as a result of human activities, causing the outbreak.

This comes barely few days after cholera outbreak in Rongo, Migori Counties and killed seven people, with 80 others admitted in critical condition.

The seven, from East Kamagambo and North Kamagambo wards, died after complaining of stomach aches.
