A Public Health Officer from Sameta Division in Sameta sub-county has banned hawking of cooked foods around schools to avert the spread of cholera and other food-related diseases.
In a public notice circulated in all public places in the area, Baraza directed that all food vendors near schools, hotels and kiosks should be in possession of valid medical certificate.
Addressing a public baraza at Igego village in Giasaiga sub-location of Sameta sub-county during a community sensitisation forum, Baraza warned of dire consequences to anybody found hawking food around schools and other public places in the area without medical certificates.
"All those hawking mandazi, chips, milk, boiled eggs and samosas should stop immediately or else legal action will be instituted against them," stated Baraza.
He also challenged local communities to embrace public hygiene and ensure each homestead has a clean pit latrine to avert spread of cholera through poor sanitation in the homesteads.
The health officer directed all public health officers in the area to volunteer information on all the members from the local communities without functional pit latrines to his office for immediate action.
