Residents of Bondeni have been told to maintain cleanloness during the El Nino rains.
Speaking at Bondeni Primary School, AMREF regional coordinator Benson Mwangi said maintaining cleanliness will avert cases of disease outbreaks.
He said the El Nino rains may come with multiple diseases like cholera.
"EL nino will come with many diseases, therefore there is need to maintain cleanness to curb such diseases," said Mwangi.
He urged school children and their teachers to maintain hygiene in their institutions by washing hands before eating and after visiting the toilet.
He advised head teachers to remind students about hand washing every time they suspect they are dirty to keep away from diseases.
He said washing hands takes a short time and can be done more than 100 times a day.
"You can even wash your hands hundred times, it just takes few minutes to do it,"he said.
Mr Mwangi said they chose Bondeni Primary School as it was once hard hit by cholera.
