Health officials in Mombasa County have raised an alarm the rising Tuberculosis (TB) cases even as both the national and county governments roll out programs to contain the highly infectious disease.
Among sub counties heavily hit include Kisauni closely followed by Likoni the officials said on Thursday.
Kisauni Health officer Mary Katana at a press conference said the trend is worrying calling for all stakeholders to intervene before more infections are registered.
"The biggest threat to our success in containing the disease is laxity by residents to adhere to health rules. Most people despite our continuous advisories still live in crowded houses with limited ventilation," Katana said adding that another sub county recording high cases is Likoni.
Katana said most of the victims of the disease are adults between the ages of 24 and 50.
She said development in the county may negatively be affected since people between the age bracket are the most product population.
TB is a highly infectious disease that can easily be spread through coughing especially in poorly ventilated rooms.
One of its main symptoms is cough that may prolong for at least two weeks. The cough is usually dry and may be resist preliminary treatment. Other signs include sudden weight loss and loss of appetite.
