Eric Ondieki, the chairman of Kenya Union of clinical officers Kisumu chapter, says the government had failed to guarantee Kenyans’ security in terror prone areas and as result putting their lives at risk.

Ondieki said they have given the government an ultimatum of 14 days after which they shall convene a meeting with the national executive council and discuss the withdrawal of all clinical officers in the regions.

This is despite the State’s hard stance that it will not evacuate civil servants in the war prone areas.

“We are recalling our members from Mandera, Wajir and Daadab refugee camps in addition to war prone areas like Turkana,” Ondieki told the press at Kisumu county hospital.

He said the withdrawal of clinicians in Mandera and other areas was informed by laxity of the government which has failed to guarantee civil servant of maximum security to their life and property.

The Union leader said more than 50 health workers had been posted to work in Mandera and other neighbouring Counties.

“Our move has been necessitated by the fact that President Uhuru Kenyatta does not care about our security especially those offering services in hostile areas. Let the natives be employed and work there,” said the union leader.

Ondieki confirmed four of their members who died during the attack were below 30 years. They include one clinical officer, one pharmacist, a nurse and medical engineering officer.

The threats come barely a week after 36 people were massacred at Mandera.
