[Governors Ukur Yatani (R) and his Mandera counterpart Ali Roba. Yatani has promised to improve healthcare if elected.] (horndiplomat.com)Marsabit Governor Ukur Yatani says his administration will prioritize the improvement of the healthcare service delivery if re-elected in August.
According to Yatani, his government since 2013 has made strides in developing the heath sector but added more efforts still need to be invested in transforming the industry he described as 'most important'.
He said plans were underway to construct maternity wards in hospitals across the county to cater for the delivery of expectant mothers.
The county chief lauded devolution saying the system had helped jack development in areas neglected by successive regimes since independence.
“Health is such an important sector and my pledge starting September will be to avail more money for the construction of hospitals and transformation of facilities already in place,” he said on Friday in Wajir town.
He said the county executives will closely work with MCAs to ensure public participation forums are regularly held so that his government makes decision based on the need of residents.
“We promise a new method of governance. Through public sharing of information, we will give the people the opportunity to tell us what projects they want.”
He called on politicians in the county to preach peace as the country readies to go for election. Without peace, he said development would not be achieved.
