At 65, Tsvangirai succumbed to Colon Cancer at a South African hospital on Wednesday night, days after warning dissenting voices in his MDC party.

"Morgan dared to dream democracy, freedom and justice for the country despite firm dictatorship hands that held his sway," read Odinga's statement.

He further said: "Until his death, he remained a source of inspiration to a generation of leaders across the continent for his courage and determination."

Throughout his struggle with disposed president Robert Mugabe, Tsvangirai persistently borrowed largely from Odinga's struggle against establishment in Kenya.

Months to 2013 elections, Tsvangirai was one of guests at Kasarani gymnasium where the ODM party endorsed Raila for presidency.
