Reports from the Nairobi county headquarters indicate that there is a heated tussle for space at City Hall after two arms of the county government claimed ownership of specific sections in the main administrative building.
The Nairobi County Assembly has claimed that the Northern Wing which stretches from the basement parking up to the fifth floor is their space while employees of Kidero's executive also say they belong there.
In September, Assembly Speaker Alex ole Magelo had gazetted that the Northern Wing belonged to the county assembly and asked Governor Kidero’s office to relocate its staff of about 400 people, something that did not happen.
On Monday this week, the employees threatened that they would down their tools should the assembly go ahead and evict them.
Through County Government Workers Union branch secretary Boniface Waweru, the workers have opposed attempts to relocate them and said that moving to another place would inconvenience their operations which would lead to interruption of key services.
However, Magelo and assembly clerk Jacob Ngwele on Tuesday said that they had been engaging the executive to relocate its staff to City Annex for over two years yet nothing had happened.
